TEMPO DANCE FESTIVAL TE RERENGA O TERE 2024
Kia tū te rangatira—Honouring Susan Jordan
13 October 2024
Q THeatRE, FOYER
Held in the Q Theatre foyer following ASPiRE, this special gathering honoured Susan Jordan, recognising a lifetime of contribution to dance in Aotearoa, and in particular her enduring impact within senior dance communities.
Hosted by New Zealand Dance Festival Trust in partnership with the Northern Dance Network, the ceremony brought together colleagues, collaborators, and whānau who had journeyed alongside Susan across decades of practice. It marked a moment of acknowledgement following her final presentation of ASPiRE, a body of work that has touched and uplifted countless lives.
Reflections were shared by Moss Te Ururangi Patterson, Elisabeth Vaneveld, Jacqui Cesan, Helaina Keely, Carrie Rae Cunningham, and Deborah Fletcher, each speaking to Susan’s influence as a dancer, teacher, and leader. Their words traced a legacy shaped not only through artistic excellence, but through care, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to community.
Kia Tū te Rangatira held space for Susan to stand in her mana, surrounded by those who came to honour her journey. It was a moment of deep appreciation, where legacy was not only spoken, but felt collectively.
